Since completing a MA in Photography at De Montfort University in 2004, Monica’s work has been exhibited and commissioned by several European galleries, organisations and institutions.

In early 90’s she discovered the magic of photography attending to some experimental workshops lead by Joan Fontcuberta. Winning a double Spanish award Fotomuestra in 1995 encouraged Monica to move to England to pursuit her photographic career.

Using photography and film as her tools, Monica has explored concepts of identity and capitalism in her works such as Lola (2004), Identidad (1995) and Launderettes LE3 (1998).

“Understandably I have been influenced by my Spanish upbringing in the late 70’s and 80’s and its reality (capitalism, embedded Catholicism and consumerism).

I’m process-agnostic. I am not afraid of using experimental techniques, as long as I can explore these concepts and sensations”.

In her studio Mo-Arts, she also develops work based around architecture, the use of art in science and their creative impact in education.

At present, Monica has recently been awarded with a Research and Development Grant from the Arts Council of England to structure and research her own work.
